Suspension Necklace No. 1

Green Amber in Silver with Perlage

Echoing the clean geometry of its companion ring, this pendant explores verticality, asymmetric balance, and tension. A luminous cabochon of natural green amber is suspended between twin, elongated sterling silver runners, held in place by precision crossbars that lend the piece its light, ladder-like architecture. An integrated chain pass allows the pendant to hang flush and fluidly along the neckline.

The suspension series is an exploration of negative space with open structures that create the perception that the gemstone exists independently within the metal.

How the idea developed

Inspired by the rigour and engineering of mechanical watch movements, the suspension series creates a framework which holds gems and other materials gently suspended within the metal.

The challenge: Using asymmetry in the piece while maintaining balance, coupled with perlage to hand finish the interior walls of the necklace to catch and disperse the light through the gem.
