Suspension Ring No. 6

Pink Morganite & Silver

A pale pink morganite extends through an open sterling silver framework, its faceted form contrasting with the precise geometry of the surrounding structure. The stone appears to emerge from the frame while remaining suspended within the open space, creating a dialogue between organic form and constructed geometry. The piece explores the point where structure meets stone — allowing the natural character of the gemstone to interrupt the discipline of the frame rather than conforming to it.

The suspension series is an exploration of negative space with open structures that create the perception that the gemstone exists independently within the metal.

How the idea developed

Inspired by the rigour and engineering of mechanical watch movements, the suspension series creates a framework which holds gems and other materials gently suspended within the metal.

The challenge: Taking the suspension concept a step further so the stone extends beyond the metal frame without the parallel planes interrupting the light through the gem.
