Tension Ring No. 1 - Horizon

An oval cabochon sapphire is held between two opposing silver bands, with the pressure of the structure securing the stone without conventional claws or a surrounding bezel. The open construction leaves the sapphire exposed on all sides, allowing its smooth surface and deep blue colour to remain the visual focus. The piece explores tension as both a structural principle and a visual language — the stone appears to hold the two elements apart while simultaneously being held by them.

The tension series is an exploration of negative space. The stone holds the structure, the setting becomes dependent upon opposing forces.
